Brokerage Calculator (India)
Work out the real cost of a trade and your net profit or loss after brokerage, STT, GST, stamp duty, and exchange & SEBI charges — for intraday, delivery and F&O. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
How trading charges work in India
Your net profit is the gross gain (sell − buy) × quantity minus every charge
on the trade. Statutory charges — STT, exchange transaction fees, the SEBI turnover fee, 18% GST and stamp
duty — are set by regulators and are the same at every broker. Brokerage and DP (depository) charges vary
by broker; this tool uses a typical discount-broker model (flat ₹20 or 0.03% per order, whichever is lower,
with free equity delivery). The breakeven move is how far the price must travel just to
cover all charges before you make any profit.
FAQ
How is brokerage calculated in India?
Discount brokers usually charge a flat fee per executed order — typically ₹20 or a small percentage of turnover (whichever is lower) for intraday and F&O, and zero brokerage for equity delivery. This calculator applies that model to both your buy and sell orders.
What charges apply apart from brokerage?
Every trade also carries Securities Transaction Tax (STT), exchange transaction charges, SEBI turnover fees, GST at 18% on brokerage plus transaction and SEBI charges, and stamp duty on the buy side. Equity delivery also has depository (DP) charges on the sell side.
Why is my net profit lower than (sell − buy) × quantity?
That formula is your gross profit. Your net profit is gross profit minus all the charges above. For small price moves the charges can outweigh the gross gain, which is why the calculator also shows the breakeven move you need just to cover costs.
Are these charges the same for every broker?
Statutory charges — STT, exchange fees, SEBI fees, GST and stamp duty — are the same everywhere. Brokerage and DP charges vary by broker, so treat the brokerage figure as a typical discount-broker estimate and confirm with your own broker.
This calculator is for education and estimation only and is not financial advice. Statutory rates can change; brokerage and DP charges differ by broker. Always confirm the exact figures with your broker's contract note.
